Hungry in Brooklyn

My name is Shea Hess. And I'm Hungry in Brooklyn.

The goal of HungryinBrooklyn.com is to create, explore and document the local, organic, and sustainable food movement in Brooklyn and beyond. By posting recipes, videos, and throwing a signature monthly dinner in my Williamsburg apartment, I hope to spread the message of responsible cooking and consuming one ingredient at a time.

  • Thanksgiving Recipe: Cranberry Sauce

As Thanksgiving approaches, I simply can’t wait for the cranberry sauce. It’s perhaps my favorite holiday side dish; and it may be one of the few foods that Americans truly consume seasonally, when cranberries are at their peak (provided it’s fresh cranberry sauce of course). No one’s putting cranberry sauce on their plate in mid-July, right? But the anticipation for this once-a-year side dish makes it that much more sweet. Check out Simple In Sixty: Cranberry Sauce for a recipe so easy it will quickly become a Thanksgiving tradition.

    HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE:

    • 2 cups cranberries
    • Juice of 1 orange
    • 1/2 cup honey
    • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
    • 1 cinammon stick
    • Orange Zest

Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a slight boil.  Reduce the heat and simmer on low until all of the cranberries have burst open and the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes.  Allow to cool before serving.

    Serves 4
